Falls Church, Va. (August 24, 2018)- The Product Stewardship Society® and the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) are pleased to announce the joint development of a product stewardship credential. This first of its kind credential will provide talented product stewardship professionals with an opportunity to set themselves apart in this growing field and more coherently advance their careers by achieving a measurable asset.
Product stewardship is the responsible management of the health, safety, and environmental aspects of products throughout their life cycle and across the value chain to prevent or minimize negative impacts and maximize value. The new credential will establish a common framework to define the profession of product stewardship and provide product stewards with the opportunity to demonstrate their professional competence.
“As President of the Product Stewardship Society and a member of the professional community, I believe this credential is game-changing. Product stewards will have a discernible metric against which to assess their professional competence and expertise in this fast-growing area. This credential will be THE credential to acquire to demonstrate your expertise and commitment to your craft.” said Kate Sellers, President of the Product Stewardship Society.
Jeffrey Miller, CIH and Chair of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene stated that “the ABIH board and staff are quite pleased to be working with the Product Stewardship Society on this important effort. The development of a Product Stewardship credential fits naturally into ABIH’s mission, and we believe that the core knowledge and skills of Product Stewards align with that of Certified Industrial Hygienists and Qualified Environmental Practitioners. Our new credentialing program will result in improved public recognition for the essential work that product stewards do to provide public protection around the globe.”
“We are proud to be partnering with ABIH to develop this new credential. Their sixty years of experience developing and administering credentialing programs will ensure a valid, reliable, and rigorous credentialing process.” said Adam Seery, CAE, Director of the Product Stewardship Society.
To develop this new credential, the Product Stewardship Society and ABIH will be issuing a call for volunteers from the profession. Interested parties can learn more here.
